Pardon Who?
Posted by steve

Here's a weekend guessing game to take your minds off the current economic woes: With George W. Bush's presidency coming to an end, he's entitled to give out a few get-out-of-jail-free cards (i.e. presidential pardons) to a lucky few. Can you guess who they might be? The folks at Pure Products U.S.A. offer a few possibilities pictured here. I wonder who'll be the first?

Ladies and gentleman,
Design is a tool for many different expressions, it is NOT an end in itself. This blog is about design in all its manifestations, including social, political, and cultural, as well as entertainment. My interest is to explore how visuals, type, and graphics impact our lives as artists, practitioners, and citizens. This post is as much about the power of photoshop as it is power of visual satire.
Also, feel free to argue or dissent, but don't tell me what to include or not on "my" blog. K?

I enjoy your daily musings Steven. Whatever the content, it's interesting to get a peek into your psyche. Blog on brother.

Steven,

You are absolutely spot on regarding your right to include whatever you want in your blog. We had this discussion previously, as you may remember. My only comment is in your “interest to explore how visuals, type, and graphics impact our lives,” do you ever stumble on any “visual satire” which reflects the beliefs and positions of anything or anyone other than that which comes from the far Left? Surely it must exist out there somewhere. Is visual satire solely in the domain of my liberal brethren? Or, do you find it, but choose not to give it airtime? My goodness, I’m beginning to think I’m out of the loop and not “hip” enough to call myself a designer if I don’t consistently bash the Right. Incidentally, by now you probably have guessed I am...horrors!...one of those dastardly Republicans, and proud of it, but found the presidential pardon cards hilarious. See, at times even we conservatives can actually take our blinders off and appreciate good political humor.

My Friends,

Yes, Jim I appreicate all visual satire. I wish I could find it on the right. Although decades ago I worked with P.J. O'Rourke I never found him all that funny. I've always been more attracted to "oppositional" satire. To me, these cards are not partisan. As you say, they make you laugh. I think we can agree that these guys have not been very good for any of us.

BTW, check this out for a bit a great non-partisan humor:

Steven,

Thanks, buddy! That video was absolutely hilarious! Somebody invested a lot of work in “that one.”
