My Eleventh Most Favorite Record Cover
Posted by Steve
I keep lists of my ten most favorite just-about-everythings (in case anyone asks me for them). But occasionally, I add an eleventh for good measure. So, my eleventh favorite album cover of all time is the Beatles'
Magical Mystery Tour
(above). Not only is it the oddest Beatles cover, it's the strangest album and film, goo goo ga choo, too. (Who was the Walrus, again?) The cover was designed by
John Van Hamersveld
, who also designed
The Endless Summer
film poster (bottom), the emblem of surf culture, and one of the more recognizable Jimi Hendrix posters (below), which he sells at his online poster store.
In this 41st anniversary year of the
Summer of Love
, it's nice to remember those who were
responsible
for the graphics of that age.

I used to have this "Top 10" Word document... it had things like: top 10 favorite foods, songs, books, places, people, fears, loves, moments... but then it also had things like: top 10 books I want to read, places I want to visit, people I would like to meet, things I want to learn. I found that it was a way for me to remember who I was and to keep me on track in terms of who I wanted to become. Anyways, just wanted to give props for list-making!

I was hoping no one would ask that.
But since you did here are the top five. . .
1.Sgt. Pepper
2.Revolver (I have an autographed copy by Klaus Voorman, the artist).
3.Cheap Thrills
4.Imperial Orchestra Under Richard Rogers (by Alex Steinweiss)
5.Disreali Gears

Funny post. I actually had the pleasure of meeting Robert August (silhouette with the surf board on his head) several years ago and have a signed poster from him. It's BRIGHT. He said that originally when they saw the poster nobody liked it because it was so neon.
