It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's Studio 360
Posted by Steve
Studio 360's
American Icons
series is a treasure trove of documentation (and great programming), but the most recent episode on
Superman, in which Kurt Andersen explores why "The Man of Steel" is so popular in popular culture
, takes the Kryptonite. What's more, the show makes the case for why Superman is
Jewish
and why the S logo is . . . well,
listen
for yourself.
Guests include Michael Chabon and Margot Kidder (a.k.a. Lois Lane).

The Jewish roots of Superman link was interesting. And of course there's the Seinfeld ep where Jerry pronounces it Supermin to make it sound Jewish. It's fun to do with other superheroes as well. Thanks, Steve.
